Gen 1:3 “LET there be light!”

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Do you truly know Him as GOD? Do you know in the depths of your soul that He is able to do “exceedingly abundantly more than we can ask or imagine?” (Eph. 3:20) Or when the rubber meets the road and your life starts falling apart, does He all of sudden seem distant and unable to manage your crises?

God said, “LET there be light.”  LET…. let it roll around in your mind. No chainsaws, heavy equipment, sweat or work crews. LET… its spectacular, simple, powerful and profound.

The very first thing that God reveals about Himself in scripture is His power. Moses wrote through the inspiration of the Spirit of God, the story of a God who speaks worlds into existence.

And what do we find Him doing? Creating a paradise for you! There were no thorns on roses or bloodthirsty animals. There were no hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding or snow storms. This was plan A and it was magnificent!

But beyond the beauty and the perfect world He was creating for you, is His power. And its in an unlimited supply! There is no lack of resources because He speaks it into existence! Was there darkness? No problem! LET THERE BE LIGHT! Is there darkness or confusion in your heart or mind? Does the path ahead seem like there is no hope?

No problem. One word… thats all it takes. But so many people do not receive the comfort God intends for them to receive. All the way through scripture we see this again and again.

Psalms 78 is a fascinating summary of what happens when we don’t contemplate who He is and that precious, life sustaining power. After the amazing 10 plagues – blood, frogs, lice, pestilence, hail… after waltzing them out of the most powerful nation on earth… after parting the Red sea, giving them safe passage and drowning all their enemies… after feeding them in a desert and providing water wherever they went, Psalms 78:40-42 summarizes their continuing unbelief by saying “How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, And grieved Him in the desert! Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember His power.”

Did they literally forget that he had done those things?? No. The memories were still there in their minds, but they didn’t drive any benefit from them because they didn’t savor or caress them.

Do you derive any benefit from Genesis 1? Have you stopped and savored those words? Have you been still and let Him reveal Himself as God? LET…..  Let the creation story be rich and immense, blindingly beautiful and full of comfort. Let the creation of the world comfort you the way He intends. Let Him be God!
